We call them “schools” (escuelas) in Spanish, but there is no teacher waiting for you! Instead you head out to rock-climbing routes of different levels of difficulty that have been devised specifically so that you can practice and train, and even start off. Of course, you will need to get kitted out first.
There is a large number of high-quality organisations and companies in the area that specialise in these kinds of activities. They will give you up-to-date information on the state and suitability of each escuela and cave. This website will point you in the direction of some places you can check out.
Rock-climbing routes at: Balaitús (Sallent), Resort Balneario (Panticosa), Escarrilla, Hoz de Jaca, Panticosa, Peña de Bubón (Tramacastilla), Rapún (Sabiñanigo), Telera (Piedrafita), Tramacastilla. Traconera Cave, opposite Saint Elena’sShrine.
