The small village of Gavín, situated at an altitude of 974 metres, is at the entrance to the Ara and Ordesa Valley. It was almost completely destroyed during the Spanish Civil War, but has kept the traditional style and flavour of a typical Pyrenees mountain village.
Saint Bartholomew’s Shrine (Ermita de San Bartolomé) is located on the outskirts of the village. It dates from the late 10th Century. It is famous for its tower with horseshoe-arched mullioned windows, rosettes and columns, and is one of the most important examples of Serrablo art.
The village fiesta is held on24th August and includes a procession to the shrine, where traditionally visitors partake of some wine and torta (a kind of sweet flatbread).
