WALKS AND HIKES

DIFFICULTY: EASY, GENTLE CHANGE IN ELEVATION

This route is in the far southwest of the Region, in Caldearenas and the surrounding area, passing through small villages where the rhythm of life is marked by the seasons, the harvests and the flocks of sheep. These villages have kept the traditional style of architecture of large stone house (called casonas) with their slab roofs. You can lose yourself in these places, walk around, relax and feel like a traveller on a journey of discovery who blends into the environment.

The Izarbe Trail is a very original route in that the artist Maribel Rey, who lives in Caldearenas, has incorporated some of her work into the environment and walkers can see how the colours draw out the stones and the trees, making the route an experience for all the senses.

The route follows a cabañera, a track that was used to move livestock. It connected Caldearenas with Anzánigo and has almost no incline at all. The walk takes 2 hours; it is suitable for people of all ages and does not require any particular level of physical fitness.
